Press Release

On a hot August evening last Summer, civic and religious leaders from across America gathered at the Pavilion Conference Center in the heart of the Dallas-Ft.Worth Metroplex to honor an outstanding evangelist and gospel singer - Joe Atkinson - for 40 years of continuous service in itinerant, vocational crusade evangelism.

The Arlington, Texas evangelist has conducted over 1,100 crusades in every state in America and in many foreign countries. He has worked with some of the greatest evangelists of the past century - Hyman Appleman, Angel Martinez, Dan Vestal, Eddie Martin, Freddie Gage, Jim Ponder and Fred Lowery. In the last eight years, he has led 20 major area crusades in the largest cities in The CIS - formerly The USSR. He recently conducted a crusade in Nanging, China. He is a graduate of Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a founding member of the Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists as well as a member of the North American Conference of Itinerant Evangelists. He is a vocalist with six International Angel Awards and a dozen recorded albums to his credit.

The evening honored the ministry of Joe Atkinson, and his wife Judy of 35 years, was a joyous time of fellowship, celebration and inspiration. Many friends of the ministry came from all over America and around the world. Dr. Fred Lowery, Bossier City, Louisiana, Dr. Daniel Vestal, Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. James Ponder, Orlando, Florida and Mr. Bo Pilgrim, an outstanding business leader from Pittsburgh, Texas, all shared inspiring messages and testimonies that evening. Randy Will, Joe Atkinson's pianist and arranger for many years, assembled an outstanding music program.

Arlington's Mayor, Elzie Odom, Tarrant County Commissioner Marti Van Ravenswaay, along with numerous civic leaders joined the evening's program, led by Dan McBride, humorist from Jacksonville, Texas, and master of ceremonies of the event.

The celebration was planned and hosted by the members of the Board of Directors of Imperial Enterprises - the Evangelistic Ministry of Joe Atkinson.
